Steven Miles
Steven Miles is father to Bridie, Aiden and Sam; husband to Kim and Queensland’s Leader of the Opposition. Steven’s Dad was a fitter at the Golden Circle cannery and his Mum was a public servant. Steven is the Member for Murrumba, he and Kim are raising their young family in Mango Hill, close to where he grew up.
Steven has dedicated his life to standing up for the rights of working people. He stood up for Queensland workers who were being sacked by Campbell Newman under his LNP Government. This fight motivated him to run for Parliament in 2015, since then he has been part of the Labor team that has restored the frontline workers sacked by the LNP.
As Environment Minister, Steven introduced the very successful Containers for Change program before becoming Minister for Health and Ambulance Services in 2017, where he oversaw record investments in our health system across the state.
As Deputy Premier and Health Minister during the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a vital role in keeping Queenslanders safe and our economy strong, always putting the lives and livelihoods of Queenslanders first and backing our health heroes.
With his experience and vision for our great state, Steven Miles is a leader focused on action on cost of living, delivering the services Queenslanders rely on and helping Queenslanders every single day. The Miles Labor government is delivering cost of living relief, making record investments in frontline health services, continuing to work on the energy transition to ensure a future made in Queensland, a safer climate for Queenslanders and progressing our Big Build to deliver more homes faster as well as the essential infrastructure we need for our growing state.
