Digital.
Queenslanders deserve digital skills and inclusion.
The Miles Labor Government is leveraging the opportunities of Queensland’s digital economy and security to create the jobs of the future, connect communities and give our kids the best possible education.
We’ve supported more than 15,000 Queenslanders with digital skills training through our Under the Digital Professional Workforce Action Plan 2020–2024.
And we’re providing opportunities for Queenslanders to gain digital and technology skills through Free TAFE.
Steven Miles and Labor recognise the importance of digital inclusion for the state’s young people.
Recently, we announced an additional 140,000 free laptops to support disadvantaged students across the state. This builds on our record of 42,300 devices already supplied to schools since 2020.
To boost digital connectivity in First Nations communities, the Miles Labor Government is also supporting the rollout of low earth orbiting satellites in 17 Indigenous Council areas.
We are also co-investing with the Federal Government to provide better connectivity in regional and rural areas.
We’ve already made it easier for Queenslanders to verify their identity safely and securely, with our Digital Licence.
We’re also helping small and medium sized businesses to gain better cybersecurity protection for free, backed by a $15 million investment from the Miles Labor Government.
Our Record.
The Miles Labor Government is committed to improved connectivity for regional communities. It’s a key priority of Our Thriving Digital Future: Queensland’s Digital Economy Strategy, backed by an initial $200 million investment to grow our state’s digital economy.
From Currumbin to the Cape – Queensland students are benefitting from faster internet connections to bridge the digital divide.
Through a partnership with Telstra, the Miles Government is investing $190 million to deliver high-speed internet to every state school in Queensland, supporting teachers and students to access to the latest digital technologies and tools in the classroom.
In delivering these upgrades, we are uplifting network infrastructure and fibre upgrades in regional and remote areas in Queensland. This means local businesses and the wider community reap the benefits of improved connectivity.
We are also delivering a $250 million investment to support a 100-fold increase in internet speeds in key parts of Queensland through the SuperGrid.
Under a re-elected Miles Government, work will continue until all our state schools can access average speeds 200 times faster, making sure no student is left behind.
This is all at risk under the LNP.
The LNP can’t be trusted to deliver for Queensland’s future.
When last in Government, the LNP wasted $100 million of taxpayers’ money trying to sell our public assets.
And they made plans to privatise CITEC – the State’s information and communication technology provider.
Under the LNP, more than 340 jobs were at risk and the Queensland would have lost essential ICT security and reliability.
The Queensland Labor Government saved CITEC in 2015. And CITEC has now been operating for more than 50 years.
