 Multicultural Queensland.

Doing what matters.

The Miles Labor Government is proud to support a unified, harmonious and multicultural community.

We want Queensland to remain, and to always be, a great place to live for everyone who chooses to call this great state home.

Since becoming Premier Steven Miles has released the fourth Queensland Multicultural Action Plan.

It builds on more than a decade of actions and investment to support a Multicultural Queensland.

The Miles Labor Government will always support equality of opportunity for all Queenslanders and work with communities to maximise the remarkable benefits cultural diversity offers.

Our Record.

Labor has a strong record of supporting multicultural communities. We have:

  • delivered a Multicultural Charter, a Multicultural Queensland Advisory Committee, a Multicultural Action Plan and reporting obligations on government entities;

  • introduced strong hate crimes and serious vilification laws;

  • record investment of $133 million over the last 10 years in the multicultural sector– ensuring the voices of multicultural Queenslanders are heard;

  • invested $16 million for asylum seeker and refugee assistance and support services since 2017;

  • invested $3 million annually for community organisations to deliver the Community Action for a Multicultural Society program across the state;

  • provided $3 million every year for grants to deliver multicultural celebrations, festivals, events and projects to enhance economic and social participation;

  • delivered $2.6 million for three African Villages in Moorooka, Geebung and Redbank Plains as part of our Community Safety Plan;

  • contributed $3.5 million to the establishment of a Queensland Holocaust Museum and Education Centre in Brisbane;

This is all at risk under the LNP.

When the LNP was last in government it slashed funding for Multicultural Affairs Queensland by more than 40%, ripping nearly $10 million out of its budget.

This included a cut of more than $1.2 million to grants and support to Multicultural Queenslanders and cuts to important ECCQ programs.

The LNP has billions of dollars in unfunded promises which can only mean one thing – it will once again cut funding to Queensland’s multicultural communities.

We can’t risk Crisafulli and the LNP dividing our community.
